About the project

This landscaping project in Macclesfield was completed in October 2012. The clients were keen to landscape the back garden ready to use the next summer. As a young family they were keen to have a practical garden area to enjoy together during the Summer months. We worked with the client to develop the garden desgin, the new garden was to be a practical garden open space, a new Indian Sandston patio area, a large area of lawn, new perimeter closeboard feather edge fencing and a raised sleeper vegetable bed surrounded with an area of hardy planting. Our first challenge on site was to install a new soak away as the existing garden had no drainage facilities, and the down pipes were simply running onto the old patio. We used a micro digger to excavate and level the garden area, with the soak away installed and the new sub base laid, we set about laying the Indian Sandstone, the client had expressed an interest in a warm red/pink sandstone and we opted for Sunset Indian Sandstone. The new patio area is approximately 45 sqaure metres providing ample space for outdoor dining and entertaining. With the patio area completed a new feather edge closeboard fence line was installed. The fencing was constructed on top of the existing garden wall with the posts bolted into the wall using met-post achcors. The new fence line provides security and privacy and also acts as a pleasing backdrop for the new planting scheme. The old lawn area was lifted, and ten tonnes of root zone top soil laid. The new rowlawn turf was laid out creating a new lush green lawn. The clients wanted an area to grow vegetable with their children, we used softwood - non-reclaimed sleepers to construct a raised vegetable bed at the top of the garden. The planting scheme was simple but effective, the patio area is adorned with Phormium Tanax to add a hint of the mediterranean to the new paved area. The garden beds area a blend of hardy evergreen shrubs such photinia fraseri - red robin, choysia gloria, cornus sanguina - dogwood, and white and black bamboo all add seasonal colour to the garden, without needing much maintainence. This landscaping and fencing project in Macclesfield was completed over three weeks with a total build cost of £12,000.
