This was a fantatsic oppurtunity to showcase our skills. The client had a clear vision of how the lake area should look, and was keen to embrace the potential of the existing site. After a design draft, a final proposal was agreed on, with work starting in March 2012. The plan was to create an area which could be enjoyed by all the family, somehere to sit an idle away sunny summers days. The new area had to be sympathetic to the wildlife in residence, with new planting and habittats created to bring in additonal animals. The raised balau hard wood decking was constructed for the fmaily to enjoy the summer sun in the day and barbecues in the evening. The first task was to break ground and distinguish the perimter of the lake, we brought in over 100tonnes of rock and stone from nearby Kerridge Quarry to form the outline of the lake. The wonderful light brown of the stone lifted the look of the lake, and was also put to use to create alarge rockery bank. A new waterfall was constructed with every attempt made to look as natural as possible. The sound of the running water bubbling over the stone monolith and down through the fall adds an acoustic dimesion to the new lake area. The deep red brown tones of the two tier hard wood decking are balanced with architetcural planting. The use of Acer's and Bamboos give a modest japanese hint to the new garden. The far bank of the lake was cleared and a generous new area of lawn laid. A stone cricle fire pit gives the fmaily somewhere to spend the night watching the stars by the warmth of a camp fire. The garden is tranformed further at night with the use of a remote controlled intregrated lighting system. Lighting the dekcing with L.E.D uplights, the water fall and lake are lit using fully submersible L.E.D spotlights, and the 3m water jet rising from the lake gives the garden a real wow factor. This was a privilege to work on, and my thanks to the clients for allowing us to work with them on relaising their brave vision! The project was completed over 7 weeks ready for the fmaily to enjoy in the summer months.
