About the project

This driveway project in Macclefield also included the planning and development of a new garage extension. The existing front driveway only allowed for the parkking of one vehcile. The clients have a young daughter with another little one on the way the way they wanted a safe driveway in order to park both famliy cars with ease. The driveway area was cleared using a 3 ton machine and all waste removed by grab hire. The footings for the new garage construction were dug to depth - circa 1400mm and approved by the councils building inspector prior to pouring the concrete footing. The ground was levelled and cleared, taking advantage of this a new alcathene water pipe was installed to do away with the old lead mains water feed. Approximately 15 tonnes of type one MOT sub base was then dirtcibuted over the geo textile membrane. The sub-base was then compacted using a heavy whacker and roller. The garage building work was completed to wall plate prior to starting the driveway. The client had epxressed an interest in a paved driveway, after providing a selection of natural stone paving, we agreed on using Kandula Grey Indian Sandtone, using only 900x600 mm paving flags. The large paving stones were laid in brick joint in order to create a modern visual with strong clean lines. The driveway surface has an ample fall away from the house with a crossfall distributing the water ina gravel trap of contrasting black bassalt aggregate. A new indian sandstone brick wall either side of the driveway provides a retaning edge on one side and a new area for planting on the other. A stone pillar allowed us to install a new front light, dressing the drive in light after dark - making loading and unloading the car after dark much easier. The garage roofline was constructed using marley edgemere tiles, and a new automated garage door installed by one our local affiliates. UPVC Double glazing doors and windows were fitted to the garage and a new out door tap added. The new driveway area provides ample space for the parking of two family sized vehicles. This driveway and garage project in Macclesfield was completed in November 2012 at a final build cost of £18900.
