About the project

This decking project in Macclesfield was constructed over a very unique plot provided us with some interesting challenges! The garden area was heavily terraced, and occupied a steep bank. In its favour, it has wonderful views out across the countryside, but due to a lack of reception space, the client has little pace to sit and enjoy the scenary. With three young children at home too, there was very little area for the chilren to enjoy playing outside. The garden was wildly overgrown, this was cleared back and the ground excavated to make way for the dekcing sub frame timber work. The decking sub-frame was constructed using tanilised construction timber, in 8x2 and 6x2. It is imperative that there is a minimum of 3 inches clearance between ground and timber, to ensure the longevity if the construction. The decking sub-frame was secured using 6x6 and 5x5 posts into the ground at aminimum depth of 750mm below ground. The new dekcing frame extended out across the garden providing a genrous level terrace for the fmaily. The hardwood Balau decking is then secured using 80mm screws drilled in using a pilot hole and countersink. The balau decking timber is extremely hardwearing, Balau is a slow gowing timber and is one of the only woods that does not float! Not only is it ferociously strong, but it also has a beautiful golden brown colour and the natural tones and grains in the wood make for a striking finished surface. The natural beauty of the wood is further accentuated using a clear decking oil. The contrast of new and old materials makes for a impressive visual, with the deep greys of the yorkstone brick and flags meeting the bright tones of the hard wood decking, The garden lighting system transforms the decking after dark, creating a welcoming envrionment for evening barbecues and entertaining.
